Did you know that Kellan Lutz, who is best known for his role as the irresistible Emmett Cullen, could have portrayed… Edward Cullen himself? 😱 Yes! The 40-year-old actor recently made a surprising revelation during a fan expo in Chicago, and believe me, you probably wouldn’t expect it.
He said no to the audition for Edward!
When the auditions for the lead role in Twilight took place, Kellan had already spent seven months in Africa for the series Generation Kill. A very intense experience, marked by war, destruction, and being away from his family.
He explains:
« I was not in the best frame of mind. I just wanted to find peace and joy in my life. So when I was offered the audition for Edward, I was not at all in that mood. »
Why he didn’t want to be Edward Cullen
His manager had told him that the role of Edward opened the door to multiple films… but that was precisely what cooled his enthusiasm.
Kellan admits:
« I thought to myself: it’s even worse, having to play this depressing character that I saw like that… It wasn’t for me. So I passed. »
And we know the rest: it was Robert Pattinson who donned the suit of the most famous romantic vampire in the saga.
How he became Emmett
Fortunately for fans (and for us 💖), the story doesn’t stop there. The role of Emmett Cullen, already assigned to someone else, became available again.
Kellan recounts:
« When I received the lines for Emmett, there were only four of them, and to me, they were all funny! I thought: this guy is really cool. So I went for it, and I enjoyed every moment on set. »
And we can only agree: Emmett brought that little dose of humor and lightness that was refreshing amidst the intensity between Bella and Edward. 🌙✨
And after Twilight?
You might not know it, but Kellan Lutz almost played a Marvel superhero… but that’s another story. 😉
